Overview

The Alnwick Garden is one of the world’s most ambitious new gardens. The Duchess of Northumberland’s vision for a forgotten plot is now a truly 21st century experience full of imagination, inspiration and fun. Designed by Jacques and Peter Wirtz, The Garden is a wonderful combination of spaces, themes, quirkiness and play.

From the tranquility of the Cherry Orchard, the excitement of the Grand Cascade and the mysteries of the Bamboo Labyrinth, to the Serpent Garden’s spell-binding water sculptures, the intrigue of the Poison Garden and one of the world’s largest tree houses – there is plenty to surprise and delight.

The Garden is a space designed to be enjoyed by all your senses, with a collection of over 4,000 plant varieties to discover, thousands of seasonal blooms and countless opportunities to get wet and play in The Garden’s water sculptures

Disappointing.

rafaman, Cramlington
This place is over - rated, over - hyped and not worth the entrance fee - or the extortionate car park fee. There is little to see and nothing for children. One can find far better gardens elsewhere in the area.

Great few hours

jonoc2013, Bishop Auckland, United Kingdom
Had a lovely few hours here. My daughter, who’s four, loved the giant trail and enjoyed the Crafty Cottage. Just a shame the treehouse was closed.

Delightful day

Gwen S, Stockton-on-tees
Took the grandchildren and grown up children. Had a lovely day exploring the water features, the grounds and the activities laid on for the kids: flower making and exotic animals. Always love it there.

Beautiful features

We didn’t visit all the garden but we saw lots as we were dining in the treehouse restaurant. The ornate gates with the bird call playing was lovely. We also loved the very popular cascade fountain and the beautiful trees beside it.

Take out a second mortgage

MatSpratt, Buckinghamshire. UK
Went with friends who had never been before. Having been years ago when it was in infancy it seemed like a lovely idea at the time. Now, sadly it has become a mini Disneyland with so much “stuff” going on. The beautiful fountain display with a plastic giant, mass entertainment when the water tractors were quite enough for small children. The prices in the cafeteria were extortionate we only had 4 coffees and a roll each. In fact most of the prices are huge. I know it has been a massive attraction for Alnwick which has hopefully helped all in the area but I just feel it has become a huge commercial theme park now.
